Preview of WordPress 5.0

WordPress have announced the release of their latest update, complete with a new default theme. This release is scheduled on the 19th of November 2018 and is exciting news amongst all WP developers.

WordPress 5.0 is set to work similarly to the new developing plugin, Gutenburg. Gutenburg was released earlier this year and offered a re-imagination of editing on WordPress. The new update will affect the way people create content and radically change editing on WordPress. WP aim to use concepts created by edit plugins such as Gutenburg and create their own version, where editing can be made with simple drag and drop movements. This new update is said to be a significantly bigger jump than previous updates, here’s why:

  • The platform is focusing on moving towards a more intuitive site-building experience.
  •  We will see improvements to the WP Rest API
  •  Building custom themes is easier
  •  Page builder plugins may lose some relevance

WordPress 5.0 comes with a new default theme, ‘Twenty Nineteen”. This theme is designed to provide flexibility and customisability whilst maintain their blog centred user base. The new default theme is much more than a blog based design; it focuses on an overall design and responsive layout on ALL pages.

WordPress 5.0 will bring a new layout for all WP developers and we want to hear what you think! Let us know your thoughts on WordPress 5.0.
